A mile is one of the Imperial Units System's unit of length (or distance) equal to 5,280 feet, 1,760 yards or 1.6093 kilometers in the SI.

The mile was an old-style Earth unit of measure used occasionally in the United Federation of Planets throughout the 23rd century and 24th century. Sensors aboard starships can be calibrated to read in miles. The term was also use in casual references to distance. (Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Animated Series)

According to Devinoni Ral, "the last mile of a marathon is always the toughest". (TNG: "The Price")

Comparative list of lengths

  • In explaining to "the 37's" what had happened to them 400 years earlier, Kathryn Janeway stated that it was believed that they "were abducted from Earth in the 1930s, and brought millions of miles through space to a planet on the other side of the galaxy." (VOY: "The 37's")
