Mike Hammer was a fictional portrayal of a 20th century detective on Earth. Odo recommended the Mike Hammer crime novel, Kiss Me Deadly, to Kira Nerys in 2375. (DS9: "Shadows and Symbols")

Miles O'Brien was also familiar with Mike Hammer, as well as other crime novel detectives, such as Raymond Chandler. (DS9: "Field of Fire")

In the 1990s the character of Mike Hammer was briefly recreated for a series of comics from Tekno Comix, the same company which produced Leonard Nimoy's Primortals and Gene Roddenberry's Lost Universe.
