A microphone

A microphone was a piece of technology used to increase the volume of one's own voice to be heard by listeners. It could be placed on a stand or held in the user's hand.

In 2000, reporter Marci Collins used a microphone labeled with her television news program, 3 Action News, during her reports. (VOY: "11:59")

Spock used a microphone at the radio station on Sigma Iotia II. (TOS: "A Piece of the Action")

On Ekos, John Gill and a newscaster used microphones when addressing the Ekosians. (TOS: "Patterns of Force")

When Montgomery Scott tried to use a 20th century computer in the office of Doctor Nichols at Plexicorp, he took the computer mouse and handled it like a microphone. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)

A microphone was placed on stage at the Bourbon Street Barn. (TNG: "11001001")

The Comic also used a microphone when telling jokes on stage. (TNG: "The Outrageous Okona")

Doctor Chaotica used a broadcast microphone in his Fortress of Doom. (VOY: "Bride of Chaotica!")

A microphone was present on stage at the Key Club, which Murf seemingly utilized during his performance as "Mr. Murfy No Shoes". Zero, however, posited that the normally nonverbal Murf may have merely been lip syncing. (PRO: "Ghost in the Machine")

In the script for the Star Trek: The Next Generation first season episode "Encounter at Farpoint", Captain Jean-Luc Picard used the microphone at his command position on the battle bridge for a log entry.
