Michael J. Hood is a special effects and prop manufacturer, designer, and animator who worked on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and the two Star Trek feature films Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. During his time on Voyager, Hood was an employee of Precision Effects, Ltd. and created the costume for Satan's Robot for the episodes "Night", "Bride of Chaotica!", and "Shattered". He previously worked on the creature suits for the Devidians on the Next Generation episodes "Time's Arrow" and "Time's Arrow, Part II". Other projects he worked on Star Trek are the Borg costumes and Cardassian armor. For the theme park attraction Star Trek: The Experience in Las Vegas he supervised the construction of the 30 ft. USS Enterprise-A model.

Among the television series he created costumes and props for are Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future, V (as employee of Greg Jein, Inc.), Ultraman, SeaQuest DSV, Earth 2, VR Troopers, and Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. He assisted in creating the theme park attractions of "Ghostbusters" and "Terminator 2: 3-D" in Orlando, Florida, Disneyland attractions in Tokyo, Europe and the United States, and artwork for several Planet Hollywood restaurants. For Madonna's The Girlie Show Live Down Under, he created the show's props.

His film work while employeed at Greg Jein, Inc. includes the comedy European Vacation (1985), the science fiction film D.A.R.Y.L. (1985), and the music drama La Bamba (1987). For Digital Domain he worked on the action thriller Chain Reaction (1996), the science fiction film The Fifth Element (1997), and the blockbuster Titanic (1997). Other film credits are the science fiction film Eliminators (1986, starring Andrew Prine and Denise Crosby), the comic adaptation Masters of the Universe (1987, with Frank Langella, Meg Foster, Robert Duncan McNeill, and Christina Pickles), the science fiction film The Abyss (1989), the science fiction film Total Recall (1990), the comic sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993), the science fiction film Demolition Man (1993), the science fiction film Stargate (1994), the comedy The Flintstones (1994), the family movie Casper (1995), and the video game adaptation Mortal Kombat (1995).

In more recent years, Hood was employed at Stan Lee Media, Inc. (2000-2001), EarthLink, Inc. (2002-2007), Applied Minds, Inc. (2008), and Gary Goddard Entertainment (2008-2010).
