Mazarite captain

A Mazarite male

The Mazarites were a humanoid species native to the planet Mazar. They were distinguished by two folded skin flaps on the sides of their faces that ran from their eyebrows, around their ears, and under their temples. Mazarites had dark hair with streaks of white hair swept back from the temples along the sides. At least for men, their hair was usually worn pulled back into a ponytail. (ENT: "Fallen Hero", et al.)

Though the Mazarites appear only in "Fallen Hero", they are additionally referenced in later ENT installments "The Catwalk" and "Affliction".
Hair Designer Michael Moore made the Mazarites' hairstyles so that their ponytails were Samurai-styled locks and their white-streaked side hair was inspired by the character of Paulie Gualtieri on the television series The Sopranos. (Star Trek: Communicator issue 152, p. 31) Also, the majority of Mazarites that appear in canon Star Trek (namely, a Mazarite Captain and two Mazarite Bodyguards were scripted to be wearing Mazarite civilian clothing which had (for the Bodyguards) pockets beneath the arms.

History

In 2149, the Klingon scientist Antaak disguised himself as a Mazarite and attended an IME Conference on Tiburon. (ENT: "Affliction")

In 2152, corruption within the Mazarite government was investigated by Vulcan Ambassador V'Lar. After she collected enough findings to prosecute them, she asked to be extracted. So that the Mazarites she was investigating would not pursue her, fake charges were brought against her and she departed on a journey back to Vulcan, under arrest. The Mazarites, however, did pursue her while she was aboard the Earth starship Enterprise NX-01; before the Mazarites could harm her, the Vulcan starship Sh'Raan came to her rescue. (ENT: "Fallen Hero")

Technology

In the 2150s, the Mazarites were technologically comparable to Humans. Their ships were only a little faster than Starfleet ships, able to reach warp 5.2. They also possessed deflector shields and communications-jamming technology. Some Mazarite personnel had sidearms, too. (ENT: "Fallen Hero")
