Maxwell Soroyan was a friend of Harry and Dennis Kim.
A few years prior to 2377, Soroyan was killed by the Maquis. When the USS Voyager reestablished communications with the Alpha Quadrant, Dennis wrote a letter to Harry notifying him of Soroyan's death.
While investigating the assaults against several ex-Maquis members of Voyager's crew, Tuvok, having read the letter, questioned whether Harry was responsible for placing them in comas. Kim sarcastically responded to the accusation, saying he fired his Captain Proton Comatizer at them after hearing of Soroyan's death. Afterwards, he assured Tuvok that he did not blame the Maquis for the incident. (VOY: "Repression")
