Austrian effects artist Markus Kurtz (born 25 July 1970; age 53) worked as the Computer Graphics (CG) Supervisor on Star Trek Nemesis as an employee of Digital Domain. Other films he worked on for Digital Domain include Paramount Pictures' Titanic (1997, as a "digital paraphernalia artist"), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000, as a lead digital artist), the 2001 epic The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (as a 3D effects animator), Paramount's 2003 remake of The Italian Job and 2005's Stealth (both as the CG Supervisor).

Kurtz has since left Digital Domain and joined Rhythm & Hues, another effects company involved with Star Trek. As a member of Rhythm & Hues, Kurtz worked as CG Supervisor on Superman Returns (directed by Bryan Singer, who made a cameo in Star Trek Nemesis) and as the Digital Effects Supervisor on the animated Happy Feet. Both films were released in 2006.
