When Chakotay brought the rackets to Captain Janeway's ready room, she wanted him to pass along her thanks and offer them "a token of our esteem." While she offered Chakotay a book to give in return, he informed her that he had already given them a "Voyager medallion", to which "they seemed appreciative."

Later, while exploring the station, Tom Paris and Harry Kim sought out a bar, where they met "a pair of Kinbori who told us about this game they play with these big, odd-looking rackets." The pair challenged Paris and Kim to a game, however, according to Paris, "I guess we weren't quite aware of all the rules," a fact that was compounded by the fact that they had been drinking. Paris continued, "we thought it was a version of tennis, but as soon as we hit the first volley, this Kinbori jumps over the net and starts attacking us with his racket." As this was happening, Kim added, "[s]o we figured we were supposed to fight back. [...] And then, er, well, things got a little out of hand." Before all was said and done, a total of thirteen Kinbori, and several others, including Paris and Kim, were all arrested "with charges [ranging] from disorderly conduct to assault on a security officer."
