Mark N Tompkins (born 16 January 1975; age 49) is a Canadian-born scenic artist and theater and film painter who worked as a Head Scenic Artist on Star Trek Beyond.

Education[]

Tompkins learned his trade while still in his formative years. He studied art at Capilano University in Vancouver, which is where he had his first opportunity to work as a scenic artist. His employment at the Vancouver Theater sparked his desire to develop his scenic art skills further. After graduating he continued to enjoy his creative career in scenic art and theater design, working alongside some of the best scenic artists and lead painting for theatre and film.

Early Career[]

Throughout his career, Tompkins has painted many scenes and has collaborated with many other notable artists. In the late 90’s, Tompkins started to supply stage scenery and paintings for numerous feature films, theater plays and TV cinematic. He started his career as scenic artist and painter on Viper (1997, starring J. Downing) and the horror film Final Destination (2000, with Tony Todd). Next followed the crime thriller Antitrust (2001), Thirteen Ghosts (2001, starring F. Murray Abraham, music by John Frizzell, and production design by Sean Hargreaves).

Torn between his love for painting and acting, he found his middle ground working on scenic design sets and scenery in the entertainment industry. In the early days of his career, Mark N Tompkins did a lot of freelancing in professional theater design, and enjoyed traveling around the world. In 2002, Mark N Tompkins became apprentice to one of the world's finest scenic artists within the film industry, which further boosted his career in the art world. Over the years he has drawn on and absorbed life experiences which have helped him evolve into an enduring artist that is able to convey his emotions to the viewer.

Personal Life[]

Now residing in California with his wife and three children, Tompkins is one of the most sought after scenic artists in the business.
