In late 2370, Lieutenant Ro Laren used one of these ships to mount a staged "raid" against the USS Enterprise-D in order to obtain medical supplies for her Maquis cell. The same ship was later used by Ro and Commander Riker during an aborted trap set by Starfleet and the Cardassian military to put an end to the cell. (TNG: "Preemptive Strike")
Ships of the class Edit
Background information Edit
- The Maquis fighter is often confused with the Federation attack fighter, both of which were used by the Maquis, but are two distinct designs.
- Although they shared the same basic design, the Maquis raider is somewhat larger than the fighter, with an altered cockpit and different detailing, since the interior set was represented by a redress of Danube-class runabout cockpit rather than a redress of the Nenebek shuttle interior.
- While not canonically established, and Star Trek being notorious for its ambiguity what ship sizes were concerned, there was a clear establishing comparison shot (otherwise a rarity in Star Trek) in "Preemptive Strike" presented, where Ro's fighter was seen pulling up alongside the aft of the starboard nacelle of Enterprise-D, which afforded an educated guess on the size of the fighter; while equally unestablished in canon, the length of Enterprise-D, and thus its nacelles is production-wise set in stone, consistently adhered to by production staffers and perpetuated in numerous official reference works, the aft nacelle part extending beyond the strut is known to be 108 feet or 32.9 meters (See Galaxy class model for details). From this it can be inferred that the fighter was intended to be approximately of this size in the episode.
- For further information on the studio model that was used as both the fighter and the raider, please see: Maquis fighter model.
