Malik2154

Malik in 2154.

Malik was an augment that was brought to life by Arik Soong in 2134. He was the strongest and smartest of the augments. Malik killed Raakin, his brother, when Raakin wanted them to live their lives in peace. He also took Persis, Raakin's consort, as his own. (ENT: "Borderland")

In 2154 Malik and the other augments stole a Klingon Bird-of-Prey, killing its crew in the process. The Klingons responded by threatening war with Earth over the incident. The Enterprise was sent to capture Malik and prevent further confrontation. Malik escalated the tensions when he took hostages on Cold Station 12, killing one of the station's doctors, and another augment, Udar who had sided with Enterprise captian Jonathan Archer. Malik stole several containers of infectious diseases from Cold Station 12 that he planned to use these as a bioweapon to destroy a Klingon colony.

When Soong learned of his plan and refused to allow it, Malik imprisoned him in the ship's brig. Persis later helped Soong escape, an action that caused Malik to kill her. Malik was successful in launching the torpedo carrying the diseases, but it was destroyed by the Enterprise. Even though Malik disabled most of the Enterprise's weapons, the aft phase cannon was still functional. The Enterprise used it to disable the Bird-of-Prey. Refusing to be captured, Malik overloaded the dilithium matrix and destroyed the ship. However, he transported to the Enterprise with the intent of killing Soong, but was himself killed by Archer. (ENT: "The Augments")

Malik was played by Alec Newman. His name means "king" or "owner" in Arabic, it might have been a tribute to Alec Newman's role in Dune, a story that feature him as a ruler and have many Arabic references.
