Malcor III was the inhabited third planet in the Malcor system. Located over 2,000 light years from Earth, this was the homeworld for the Malcorians, a humanoid species. The planet was headed by a chancellor.

The Malcorians divided the planet's day into 29 hours.

The nearest star system to Malcor III was the Garth system.

In 2367, the planet made First Contact with the Federation prematurely when William T. Riker, on a mission to investigate the species, was revealed as an alien. Avel Durken was the planet's chancellor at this time. (TNG: "First Contact")

In the The Nitpicker's Guide for Next Generation Trekkers, Volume II (p. 278), author Phil Farrand stated that the planet was named after fan Karen P. Malcor.
According to the Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 47), the Malcor system was in or near Federation space, in the Alpha Quadrant. This system, also known as Mu Ceti, was a binary star system. The primary was a class F star with a magnitude of +3, which was ten times brighter than Sol. The secondary was a class F star. This system was the site of a battle prior to 2378.
