The Makers were a humanoid species native to the Andromeda Galaxy. With the creation of service robots, which became far more common than was the case in the mid-23rd century Federation, the Makers were free to evolve into a perfect social order. The Makers established exploratory outposts in the Andromeda and Milky Way galaxies. One of these outposts, later renamed Mudd by Harry Mudd, was the assignment for Norman. The homeworld of the Makers was devastated by a supernova. With the destruction of the home planet, the civilization collapsed with only a few exploratory outposts surviving the cataclysm. Over time, the surviving Makers died and, by 2268, the species was extinct. (TOS: "I, Mudd")
