In starship classification, a light cruiser is a small to medium sized multi-purpose starship.

The 24th century Wambundu-class was designated a light cruiser (TNG:"The Arsenal of Freedom").

The Saber-class was also typified as a light cruiser.

In addition to the Intrepid-Class light cruiser, during the Dominion War a variant type of light cruiser built from an Intrepid-class primary hull was in service. The USS Yeager belonged to this light cruiser class.

Another type of light cruiser used in the Dominion War was a variant of the Constitution and Saladin classes of starship, a saucer with two warp nacelles. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual).

The Saber-class's designation, the Yeager type specification and the unknown Constitution variant were all listed in the DS9 text.
