A lectern was a type of desk which a person could stand behind when speaking to an audience. A lectern was sometimes used during a lecture.

Zefram Cochrane stood behind a lectern during his commencement address at Princeton in 2063. (ENT: "Regeneration")

At the launch ceremony for Enterprise NX-01 in 2151, Admiral Maxwell Forrest stood at a lecture stand to deliver a speech. (ENT: "Broken Bow")

In 2259 of the alternate reality, James T. Kirk gave a speech from behind a lectern at the rechristening ceremony of the USS Enterprise. (Star Trek Into Darkness)

A lectern, with a book on it, was also in the chapel aboard the USS Enterprise of the prime reality. In 2266, the starship's commanding officer, the James T.
