A Laser Cannon is a large device, used as a weapon aboard spacecraft and other installations. It is somewhat primitive and is quite simply a large, high energy laser projector.
Starfleet and many other races in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants seemed to have progressed onwards to phaser technology at some point between 2254 (TOS : The Cage) and 2265 (TOS : Where No Man Has Gone Before). By the 24rd century few races still used laser cannons other than:
- the Straleb (TNG : The Outrageous Okona)
- the Altec (TNG : The Outrageous Okona)
- the Lysian Alliance (TNG : Conundrum)
- the Satarran (TNG : Conundrum)
