Lapsang suchong tea was a distinctive tea with a smoky flavor that originated from the country of China on Earth. It was considered to be one of the strongest flavored teas, its taste was caused by the leaves being laid over pine fires. Often a compliment to spicy foods, it was best served clear, or with milk.

In Earth fiction, Lapsang suchong tea is the favorite blend of mystery thriller character Sherlock Holmes.

Helena Rozhenko ordered Lapsang suchong tea when she met with Worf in Ten Forward after bringing Alexander Rozhenko aboard the USS Enterprise-D in 2368. (TNG: "New Ground")
