The landing gear was a component of some starships which were capable of entering a planet's atmosphere and landing on the surface.
A Klingon Bird-of-Prey could be equipped with landing gear. (Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
The landing gear served to steady and support the starship upon landing. It is possible for a starship's landing gear to become stuck on a planet's surface. (VOY: "Demon")
One notable class of starship which possessed landing gear was the Intrepid-class, such as the USS Voyager. The Voyager used its landing gear on several occasions during its journey through the Delta Quadrant. (VOY: "The 37's", "Dragon's Teeth")
According to the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual, the USS Defiant was shown in graphics to be equipped with landing gear. However, this was never used on screen or described outside of that publication.
