Kira Meru is the mother of Kira Nerys. During the Cardassian occupation of Bajor she is selected by Bajoran collaborators to serve as a comfort woman onboard the Cardassian mining station Terok Nor. She there becomes Gul Dukat's personal lover, a fate she accepts and embraces, partly due to her family getting special treatment at home. Kira Meru is involved with Gul Dukat for seven years, till her death, living in relative luxuary. Back on Bajor Kira Taban tells the children that their mother is at the Singha refugee center, where she also died, a lie that would last until 2374 when Gul Dukat contacts Nerys on Meru's birthday, revealing that Meru in fact did not die when Nerys was three years old, but had left her family to be with him. When Nerys investigation fails to prove Dukat wrong, she consults the orb of time to see the truth. Meru was fond of Bajoran lilacs. (DS9: "Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night").
