At one point in her life Kahlest was the object of affection of K'mpec, but she refused his advances because she found him "too fat".
At the time of the Romulan attack on Khitomer in 2346, Kahlest was on the planet along with Worf and his parents. Kahlest survived the attack severely injured and was transported by the USS Intrepid to the biomedical facility at Starbase 24 for treatment.
In 2366, when Worf's brother Kurn came aboard the USS Enterprise-D to inform him that their father would soon be branded a traitor, the crew of the Enterprise-D located Kahlest as another survivor of Khitomer. Living in the Old Quarter, she initially refused Jean-Luc Picard's request for testimony before the Klingon High Council, but changed her mind when Picard was attacked and killed one of the assassins. She then accompanied Picard, but was told by K'mpec that her statement would not be needed. K'mpec commented it was good to see her again, upon which she replied that he was "still fat".
