Jonathan Swift was an Irish author. He was known for saying that flattery is the food of fools. (VOY: "Fair Haven")

His work Gulliver's Travels was among the books kept by Charles Tucker in his Enterprise NX-01 quarters in 2153. (ENT: "Cogenitor")

In 2376, "Katie O'Clare" quoted Swift in a conversation with (the original version of) the holographic character Michael Sullivan. He did not recognise the name, explaining that he was never one for reading. (VOY: "Fair Haven")

The quotation "Flattery's the food of fools" comes from Swift's poem Cadenus and Vanessa.
