John Beasley (born 28 September 1960; age 55) is a Grammy Award nominated music composer and pianist who wrote the additional score for the Star Trek: The Next Generation pilot episode "Encounter at Farpoint" in 1987. The music piece "Jazz M14" composed by him can be heard in the first season episode "11001001".
Beasley also composed music and additional scores for the television series Family Ties (1985-1986), The Bronx Zoo (1987-1988), Open House (1989-1990), Six Feet Under, Cheers, Twin Peaks, Family Guy, and Murphy Brown, the comedy The Linguini Incident (1991), the drama Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), the drama The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996), the animated adventure A Bug's Life (1998), the drama The Green Mile (1999), the drama Erin Brockovich (2000), and the Disney films Finding Nemo (2003) and WALL·E (2008). He also produced and arranged the title them for the animated series Goof Troop (1992-1993).
A musician himself, Beasley worked with many singers including Barbra Streisand, Miles Davis, Chaka Khan, Queen Latifah, and James Brown. In the more recent years he worked as musical director and arranger on several reality shows such as American Idol (2005-2010) and America's Got Talent (2007). He has also released his own music over the years and his ninth studio album "Positootly!" in 2009.
