Jim Shimoda (played by Benjamin W.S. Lum) was Deputy Chief engineer aboard the USS Enterprise-D when it was first commisioned in 2364. When the Enterprise encountered a form of polywater intoxication, Shimoda, under the influence of the intoxication, almost caused the ship to be destroyed by removing the isolinear chips that controlled the engines. However the chips were replaced by Lt. Comdr. Data, allowing engine power to be restored. (TNG:"The Naked Now")
