Jeanne Bal (3 May 192830 April 1996; age 67) was one of the two actresses who played Nancy Crater in the Star Trek: The Original Series first season episode "The Man Trap". She filmed her scenes on Friday 24 June 1966, and between Tuesday 28 June 1966 and Thursday 30 June 1966 at Desilu Stage 9 and Stage 10.

Bal was born in Chicago but grew up in California, where her father worked as set designer in Hollywood. She attended high school and junior college in Santa Monica and worked as a fashion model for a year and a half. She studied to become a journalist in New York City, before turning to stage acting, earning a part in the Broadway play Gypsy Lady in which she also performed in London. Her other stage credits in the 1950s include the musicals South Pacific and Guys and Dolls. [1] [2]

Bal starred in the short-lived sitcom Love and Marriage from 1959 through 1960. In 1961, she became a regular on the sitcom Bachelor Father, but left shortly afterwards.

She was best known, probably, for her co-starring role as Vice Principal Jean Pagano in the first season (1963-64) of the high school drama series Mr. Novak, alongside fellow "The Man Trap" actor Vince Howard. Walter Koenig, George Takei, Charles Seel, Kim Darby, Malachi Throne, Brooke Bundy, Tom Curtis, Harry Townes, Tige Andrews, Richard Evans, Sherry Jackson, Kathryn Hays, Gilbert Green, Terri Garr, Bill Quinn, Oliver McGowan, Robert Sampson, and Sharyn Hillyer appeared in guest roles in episodes with Bal. Michael O'Herlihy worked as director on several episodes of the series and John D.F. Black contributed as writer.

Her other television credits include several appearances on Perry Mason (with William Schallert, Parley Baer, Seamon Glass, Gene Lyons, Byron Morrow, and Richard Geary), and guest spots on Bonanza (directed by Don McDougall), Route 66, Wagon Train (with Hal Baylor), The Fugitive (with Paul Sorensen and Mark Russell, directed by James Goldstone), and I Spy.

Bal retired from acting in 1971. She married twice, first to stage manager Ross Bowman from 1953 to 1956, then to attorney Edward Richard Lee from 1963 until her death. She died of breast cancer in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, California, four days before her 68th birthday.
