Jatarn was a Bajoran and a major in the Bajoran Militia in 2372. Major Kira Nerys recommended him to Captain Sisko as her replacement when Kira was thinking of resigning her post as liaison officer of Deep Space 9 to follow her D'jarra. (DS9: "Accession")
