(written from a Production point of view)

James Otis (16 March 19483 March 2020; age 71) was an actor who played Solbor in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine seventh season episodes "'Til Death Do Us Part", "Strange Bedfellows" and "The Changing Face of Evil". He also portrayed a Pah-wraith in the likeness of Solbor in the latter two episodes.

While Solbor was originally conceived as a small, one-off character, the producers were so impressed at Otis' performance in "'Til Death Do Us Part" that they brought him back for the later two episodes. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion (pp. 695-696))

His first motion picture appearance was in Dragonfly. Later movies he appeared in include Stardust Memories, Another Day in Paradise and The Kiss. In 2006 he appeared in Brian De Palma's movie The Black Dahlia and Christopher Nolan's The Prestige.

In the Profiler episode "Victims of Victims," Otis appeared as Conner Drake, the son of a serial killer. In the same episode, Louise Fletcher appeared as Miriam Newquay, the mother of the series star serial killer "Jack of All Trades," aka Albert Newquay, played by Dennis Christopher.

Otis also guest starred in John Shiban-executive produced The X-Files (with Jay Caputo and Zach Grenier), ER (with Louise Fletcher, Molly Hagan, and Lily Mariye) and Supernatural.
