James Komack was a Starfleet admiral who served on the Starfleet Academy Board in 2258.

In that year, Komack took part in the proceedings to decide a course of action regarding cadet James T. Kirk's tampering with the programming code of the Kobayashi Maru exam. Later, he was present at Kirk's promotion to captain, following Kirk's valiant efforts in saving Earth from the Romulan Nero. (Star Trek)

Komack was played by Ben Binswagner.
According to the text commentary from "Amok Time", by Michael and Denise Okuda, the prime Komack was named for James Komack, director of TOS: "A Piece of the Action".
Benjamin P. Binswanger also appeared in the sequel Star Trek Into Darkness where he is listed as "Starfleet Admiral". It is unknown if this is a different part or if this is also James Komack. The 2013 virtual collectible card battle game Star Trek: Rivals is listing him on card #62, Admiral Komack.
