Jaglom Shrek was an Yridian information dealer.
In 2369, Shrek traveled to Deep Space 9 and sold information on the fate of Mogh to Starfleet Lieutenant Worf, son of Mogh. Shrek claimed that Mogh was still alive twenty-five years after the Khitomer Massacre, and transported Worf to a Romulan prison camp in the Carraya sector in his shuttlecraft. However, Mogh was not among the survivors in the prison camp. (TNG: "Birthright, Part I", "Birthright, Part II")
Background Information Edit
Shrek was played by actor James Cromwell. The role had to be trimmed when Cromwell broke his leg in the break between filming the two parts of "Birthright". (Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion) Brannon Braga explained, "There was a whole scene in Part I in which Shrek comes clean as to why he's doing all these horrible things. He turns out to be a very sympathetic character who was once held in a prison camp himself, but that was lost from the entire storyline, so now he's somewhat one-dimensional." (Star Trek Monthly issue 26, p. 36)
The character of Jaglom Shrek was extremely popular with the makeup department for Star Trek: The Next Generation. Stated James Cromwell, "Shrek was one of the makeup department's favorite characters. When I went into makeup on Star Trek: First Contact, Michael Westmore told me that the guys were all rooting for me to be Shrek!" (Star Trek: Communicator issue 111, p. 68)
According to the script for "Birthright, Part I", his first name was pronounced as "JAG-lom".
