J.M. DeMatteis (born 15 December 1953; age 70) is a comic book writer. He started with DC Comics in the mid-1970s after an earlier career as a music journalist. He is known for his work on Marvel Comics' Defenders and Captain America, and creating DC Comic's Justice League International (with Keith Giffen and Kevin Maguire). He was the author of the last issue in Marvel's Star Trek series, "A Thousand Deaths". He was born on the same day as Star Trek: The Next Generation guest actor Howie Seago.

In August 2020, DeMatteis also wrote Star Trek: Hell's Mirror, and released by IDW Publishing.
