According to Star Trek: Star Charts, (Pgs. 32, 36) the Class M planet Izar was the third planet in the Epsilon Boötis star system, located in the Alpha Quadrant. The Epsilon Boötis system was a single star system. Epsilon Boötis was a K Class star with a magnitude of +5, which was the same brightness as Sol.
In 2183, after being charted by the SS Horizon, the planet was the site of an Earth colony. Within months of being established, the colony was admitted to the United Federation of Planets. In 2370, the census counted 185 million living on this planet. The planetary capital was New Seattle.
