Istanbul is a city in Turkey, partly located in Europe and partly in Asia. Before the 20th century, it was known as Constantinople.

In summer 1334, the city was affected by the Bubonic plague while Flint was in the city. (VOY: "Requiem for Methuselah")

From the late 19th century to the 1970s, Istanbul was the destination of the Orient Express.

In the Julian Bashir, Secret Agent holoprogram set in the 1960s, Istanbul sent several messages to an island in the South Pacific, that were intercepted by the Americans. (DS9: "Change of Heart")
