An isolytic reaction is the chain reaction event when antimatter radiation is neutralized by recombining nucleonic particles. The method was mostly developed by the Uxali scientist Otrin.

In 2378, radiation in the atmosphere of Uxal, the world on which Friendship 1 landed, was neutralized by the crew of USS Voyager. Photon torpedoes of the ship were modified to scatter the catalytic agent in the concussive force of the torpedo explosions. The multiple torpedo blasts in the troposphere of the planet delivered the agent globally to achieve the isolytic reaction.

USS Voyager's deflector shields needed to be modified and structural integrity needed to be reinforced to allow the ship to survive the reaction. (VOY: "Friendship One")
