The Battle of Fort Hindman, depicting several ironclads

An ironclad was a type of 19th century sailing ship, best described as a warship clad with iron-plated armor. This type of vessel was predominantly used on Earth during the American Civil War by both the Union and Confederate Armies.

Images depicting several ironclads of this era were scanned by the Talosians, while they downloaded the USS Enterprise's library computer in 2254. (TOS: "The Cage" and "The Cage" remastered)

Ironclad shipsEdit

The ironclad USS Monitor was later referenced by Abraham Lincoln in what was a deleted scene from "The Savage Curtain". In this scene, Lincoln, who was amazed at the wonders of the Enterprise stated, "We thought our Monitor the most formidable vessel imaginable. An iron ship that floated on water! You can imagine my amazement at an iron ship that floats on air..." [1]
