Irene Hansen was a Human woman who owned a farm on Earth in the mid to late 24th century. Her brother Magnus Hansen and sister-in-law Erin Hansen, both of whom were Federation exobiologists, were the first Humans to closely study the Borg. (VOY: "The Raven", "Dark Frontier")

In the 2340s, her niece Annika often stayed in her house while her parents went away.

In 2378, she contacted Starfleet asking them to tell the USS Voyager that she would like to contact her niece, the former Borg drone Seven of Nine. Starfleet informed her and Seven contacted her aunt soon afterwards. The two of them discussed Seven when she was a little girl. Irene told her that she was "the most stubborn six-year-old [she'd] ever met" and that it was wonderful to see her again. (VOY: "Author, Author")

As Magnus and Erin had embarked on their independent research mission to study the Borg on stardate 32611 in 2347, this was the first time that Irene had seen her niece in over 30 years. (VOY: "Dark Frontier")

Irene Hansen was played by actress Lorinne Vozoff.
The character was named for Irene Browne, mother of episode co-writer Michael Sussman. (Information provided by Mike Sussman)
