Harry Kim's intestines

The lower intestinal tract, simply known as the intestines, bowels, or gut, was a two-part anatomical system, made up of the small intestines and large intestines, designed to transfer digested food to the circulatory system or to expel waste, in the form of feces and urine, from the body. It was part of the digestive system and made up the second half of the digestive tract.

Comparative anatomy[]

In Takarans, the large intestine and small intestine was located in the umbilical. (TNG: "Suspicions")

The Human small intestine was lined with millions of villi to enable them to absorb nutrients. McCoy mentioned this in 2269, comparing a part of the cosmic cloud to a small intestine. (TAS: "One of Our Planets Is Missing")

In 2365, Ira Graves described Data as "a walking tin can with circuits for intestines". (TNG: "The Schizoid Man")

The Hirogen occasionally collected the intestines of their prey, along with many other body parts. They considered Human intestines to be an unusual relic due to being long and coiled. (VOY: "Hunters")

History[]

A diagram of the Human torso depicting the location of the large intestine was stored in the USS Enterprise's library computer database. This database was accessed by the Talosians in 2254. (TOS: "The Cage")

A man who lost his legs; with his intestines hanging out

During an anything but canon First Contact Day party onboard the USS Enterprise, Spock presented a clip from a blooper reel of a transporter accident that caused a crewmember to be beamed aboard without his legs as he rematerialized. He then falls down hard on the platform and spills out much of his intestines and blood. The party goers were not amused by the clip at all. (VST: "Holiday Party")

Though Joe Tormolen's 2266 intestinal wound was not severe and Doctor Leonard McCoy intervened in what should have been enough time, the lieutenant junior grade died anyway, due to giving up. (TOS: "The Naked Time")

The Thousand Days of Pain in Romulan mythology stated the ch'khalagu would feast on the living, turning the streets slick with the entrails of the half-devoured corpses. (PIC: "Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2")
