An infection or contagion was the infiltration of agents in tissue of a healthy organism, creating viral or bacterial toxins and developing a disease.

The Akaali apothecary Riaan thought of some kind of airborne contagion when talking about the disease some people in her city were suffering from but it never spread beyond her city. (ENT: "Civilization")

Kamaraazite flu was a viral infection. (ENT: "Sleeping Dogs")

In 2153, Doctor Phlox was infected with Borg nanoprobes. (ENT: "Regeneration")

Surgical masks and surgical gloves were protective coverings used by medical staff to decrease the likelihood of cross-contamination and infection during medical procedures. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)

In 2268, Parmen suffered from a bacterial infection. (TOS: "Plato's Stepchildren")

When the Ornarans T'Jon and Romas suffered from the loss of their narcotic Felicium, Doctor Beverly Crusher assumed signs of an infection in first place. (TNG: "Symbiosis")

In 2365, Commander William T. Riker became infected by the Surata IV microbe. (TNG: "Shades of Gray")

To demonstrate Vash how much she needed him, Q infected her with an Erabus Prime bug infection. (DS9: "Q-Less")

After beaming down to Bajor in 2369, Doctor Julian Bashir was unable to find evidence of airborne infections. (DS9: "The Storyteller")

The Vidiian chief surgeon Sulan infected B'Elanna Torres with the phage after he separated her Klingon DNA from her Human. He believed her nucleotide sequences were resistant against the phage. (VOY: "Faces")

In 2371, the bio-neural gel packs aboard the USS Voyager became infected. (VOY: "Learning Curve")

In 2372, Captain Kathryn Janeway and Commander Chakotay were isolated on a planet in a Delta Quadrant, "New Earth", due to an infection with a terminal illness. (VOY: "Resolutions")

Chakotay developed an infection when he and Seven of Nine crash landed on the planet Ledos. (VOY: "Natural Law")
