Hot dog pile

Pile of hot dogs

Hot dogs or franks were a food from Earth, a type of sausage consisting of meat in a cylindrical casing. They were made popular in the 20th century and were particularly associated with being a snack food for spectators during baseball games. They are also served with French fries and Soda pop (similar to a Hamburger and a Chicken sandwich).

Roy Ritterhouse claimed, in 1953, that he had had extra sauerkraut on his franks the night before when the writers of Incredible Tales complained about a drawing he had made of a bug-eyed monster climbing a building. (DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars")

While on 1996 Earth, Tuvok got foot-long hot dogs, chili burritos, and Goliath gulps for himself, Tom Paris, and Rain Robinson for breakfast one morning. Robinson likened the meal to something she would expect to eat during an afternoon at Dodger Stadium. The Hot Dog on a Stick, a 20th century establishment in Los Angeles, specialized in selling hot dogs and fresh lemonade. A smaller stand called Marvins Hot Dogs operated near Metro Plaza. (VOY: "Future's End", "Future's End, Part II")

In Toronto in the year 2022, James T. Kirk (from an alternate future) and La'an Noonien-Singh ate some hot dogs that they purchased at a hot dog stand that was right next to a cotton candy stand. (SNW: "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow")

Kira Nerys was confused by the food's name in 2372, which outside of its direct meaning, implied a heated canine, when Benjamin Sisko promised to treat her to the snack while the two watched a holodeck simulation of a baseball game. (DS9: "Starship Down")

Kasidy Yates offered to buy the hot dogs for a new baseball-oriented holosuite program to which Nog sent Jake Sisko, later that year, between the 1961 New York Yankees and 1978 Boston Red Sox. (DS9: "For the Cause")

In 2381, Lieutenant Shaxs used a replicator to order a hot dog with spicy kiwi and some French fries. (LD: "We'll Always Have Tom Paris")

While aboard CR-721 in 2384, Jankom Pog replicated a large number of hot dogs, which he called "hut dogs" and declared "food fit for a king." After the station computer was corrupted by the living construct, the replicator malfunctioned and began spitting out burned hot dogs. (PRO: "Asylum")

In the first draft script of VOY: "Caretaker", Tom Paris and Captain Janeway, during their first meeting together, visited "a hot dog vendor replimat," covered by "a yellow and gold umbrella," and Janeway ordered two hot dogs from a replicator there. Her hot dog had Keladan leeks and capsicum relish, whereas Paris had "just mustard" on his. The script refers to the hot dogs as "franks" and, when asking for his to have only mustard on it, Paris said, "I'm a purist."
