Summary

A Klingon Bird-of-Prey, Khitomer's Revenge en route to Qo'noS docks at Deep Space 9 so that a prisoner, Mard, can receive medical attention from Dr. Bashir. Mard attempts to escape, but is stopped by Odo. The prisoner then takes Bashir hostage in Sickbay. Sisko discovers that the Klingon captain, K'Leht orchestrated the situation so that the DS9 crew would be forced to kill Mard.


Background information

  • This special preview issue was the second preview issue, also known as an "ashcan". The "official" name and number of this issue was "Hero Illustrated #2", but it is more commonly known simply as "Hostage Situation".
  • The story was a short 7 page story that was not repeated in any other release in Malibu's DS9 run.
  • The stardate places this story in 2366, which is a full 3 years before the story of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine begins.
  • Odo transforms into a Vulcan sehlat, a creature resistant to Klingon disruptors.
  • The short story was reprinted in the "Best of DS9" collection.
