Homer was an ancient Greek author writing in the 8th century BC.

In 2368 Berlinghoff Rasmussen mentioned Homer to Geordi La Forge as a historical figure who was blind. (TNG: "A Matter of Time")

Homer is best known for his Odyssey and Iliad, epic poems which feature characters such as Odysseus and Achilles.

The Homeric Hymns were attributed to Homer by ancient writers, though in later times they were believed simply to be similar to his style. Jean-Luc Picard read the Homeric Hymns while pondering the importance of mythology in Earth culture in light of his experiences with the Children of Tama. (TNG: "Darmok")
