Background information Edit
His name was spelled "Hendorf" in the novelization.
Star Trek: Ongoing from IDW Publishing first revealed that the character known as "Cupcake" in the 2009 film was Hendorff's alternate reality-counterpart; this is canonically confirmed in Star Trek Into Darkness. In issue #13, "The Redshirt's Tale", Hendorff survives this timeline's version of "The Apple" after receiving a blood transfusion from Spock, who is immune to the plant's poison. His first name initials are revealed to be "G. P."
According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 333), Hendorff was an ensign. The reference work quotes Robert Justman, who had this to say about Hendorff, "...he was killed because he wore a red shirt. He should have known better!"
