For the alternate reality counterpart, please see Hendorff (alternate reality).

Hendorff was a male Human Starfleet officer who lived during the mid-23rd century. He served in the operations division aboard the USS Enterprise under Captain James T. Kirk, during a historic five-year mission that starship undertook. He served as one of the ship's security officers in 2267.

That year, Hendorff was a member of a landing party that visited Gamma Trianguli VI. He was one of Vaal's victims, killed by a pod plant, moments after arriving on the planet's surface. (TOS: "The Apple")

Appendices Edit

Background information Edit

Hendorff was played by actor Mal Friedman. His name was spelled "Hendorf" in the novelization.

According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 333), Hendorff was an ensign. The reference work quotes Robert Justman, who had this to say about Hendorff, "He was killed because he wore a red shirt. He should have known better!" In fact, he is the first of four redshirts to be killed in "The Apple".

Apocrypha Edit

Star Trek: Ongoing, from IDW Publishing, first revealed that the character known as "alternate reality" in the 2009 film was Hendorff's alternate reality-counterpart; this was later confirmed in canon in Star Trek Into Darkness. In issue #13, "The Redshirt's Tale", Hendorff survives the alternate reality's version of "The Apple" after receiving a blood transfusion from Spock, who is immune to the plant's poison. His first name initials are revealed to be "G. P."
