Haggis was a traditional dish in Scotland made from the liver, lungs, and heart of a sheep, with oats, groats, or other fillers, seasoned and then stuffed into the sheep's stomach. It was boiled and often served with whisky while ushered in by pipers.

In 2267, when in trouble with Ambassador Robert Fox, Montgomery Scott said to Dr. Leonard McCoy, "The haggis is in the fire for sure." (TOS: "A Taste of Armageddon")

In 2269, Scott commented that Captain James Kirk and a recreation of Abraham Lincoln were "probably looking up a plate of haggis in the galley" as part of a lengthy tour of the USS Enterprise. (TOS: "The Savage Curtain")
