Gustav Mahler was an Austrian composer and conductor of the 19th and 20th centuries. The second movement from his Symphony Number One was played on the ship-wide comm when Kashyk came aboard USS Voyager in 2375. (VOY: "Counterpoint")
The opening of Mahler's Symphony Number One was quoted in Alexander Courage's Star Trek theme.
