Gustafson was a fleet admiral mentioned in a scene cut from the Star Trek: The Next Generation fifth season episode "The Inner Light". She only appeared in the script of the episode. [1]
In the scene, Captain Picard revealed that the USS Enterprise-D was en route to Starbase 218 so that the crew could give their survey of the Parvenium sector (later changed to the Parvenium system) to the admiral personally. He mused that the last time he met Gustafson, he ended up spending nine hours watching Wagner's Ring cycle. This had turned out to be a bit too much for Picard, but Gustafson had gone back to see it again the next day.
