The Great Monetary Collapse was an economic disaster that occurred on Ferenginar around the time Quark was serving as a cook on a Ferengi freighter. It was associated with "rampant inflation and currency devaluation that were burning like wildfires through the lush financial foliage of" Ferenginar.
Since the Ferengi Alliance is built upon and governed by the idea of a free-enterprise system, this was considered a disaster much like the bombing on Earth that occurred on stardate 49170.65 – the first such disaster in over a hundred years. (DS9: "Homefront")
Apocrypha
The novel Twist of Faith contained a timeline listing Quark arriving on Terok Nor in 2360 after spending 8 years as a cook on the Ferengi freighter, placing the Great Monetary Collapse between the years of 2352 and 2360.
