Gray whale model

Gray whale model

The Gray whale (Eschrichtius robustus) was an aquatic mammal indigenous to Earth. It was a cetacean species. Like its name suggested, it had a distinct gray coloration, though that color was broken by white streaks. As of 1986, grey whales lived near the west coast of North America, and parts of the eastern coasts of Asia.

This range was a snapshot from the age of whaling: the gray whale once had a much wider range, and according to some scientists might currently be re-colonizing that range.

In 1986, the Cetacean Institute had a display with models and information thereon of different whale species, among them two gray whales, an adult and its calf. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
