Gravimetric shears are a type of phenomena found in the Argolis Cluster. Jadzia Dax was familiar with them as she had studied protostar clusters.
In 2374, Captain Benjamin Sisko told Admiral William Ross of his plan to destroy a Dominion sensor array in the Argolis by having the USS Defiant navigate around the gravimetric shear. (DS9: "Behind the Lines")
