The Gramilian sand pea was an edible seed that inhibited the salivary glands and desiccated the tongue, causing an immediate but subtle thirst. At Pel's suggestion, Quark started serving them as a snack in his bar in 2370 to make his customers buy more drinks. (DS9: "Rules of Acquisition")
