The term good luck charm referred to a person or item whose presence was believed to bring luck to a crew or an individual.

Shortly after meeting Harry Kim in 2371, Tom Paris warned the ensign that he was not exactly a good luck charm and advised Kim to listen to those who had warned him to avoid hanging out with Paris. (VOY: "Caretaker")

Alexander Rozhenko was considered a good luck charm by the crew of the IKS Rotarran, who he claimed felt safer the more mistakes he made. (DS9: "You Are Cordially Invited")

According to Neelix, an old spacefaring tradition among Talaxians was the belief that if a Talaxian Furfly stowed away aboard one's ship, that "it was a sign of good fortune." (VOY: "Timeless")
