Gia was a Bajoran woman who was part of the Bajoran personnel stationed on Deep Space 9.
After Bajor briefly re-introduced the D'jarra in 2372, Jia found herself to be a Te'nari. In the Replimat, she gave her seat to Kira Nerys, who was a Ih'valla and thus higher than her in the caste system. (DS9: "Accession")
